Scratch Board Art

The medium is perfect for experimenting with textures and creating highly detailed artwork. I use everything from needles to Brillo pads to create these illustrations. With Scratchboard, you start with a thin sheet of clay covered with a layer of black India ink. Using knives, or really anything you have around the house, you work backwards to create your black and white art piece.

evil octi

“Evil octopus” was named affectionately by one of my favorite instructors with a phobia of octopi. It was my first and favorite piece of scratchboard art. Since then I have created many other realistic animal pieces and moody portraits of actors.
