Vector Sunflower

Vector illustration was my first love. Since learning it in ‘08, Adobe Illustrator has always been my preferred program, and the first one I ever learned. Below is my process for a Wood-cut themed Sunflower illustration I drew for an international beauty brand.

Sometimes I prefer to get old school with the conceptualizing phase, and take the illustrations only to the computer once I’ve done the majority of the creative stuff. I started out sketching on standard grid paper, trying to come up with a shape. Once I had a thumbnail I liked, I took my time to redraw it, then finally going over it with pen and ink.

Next, I scanned it in, quickly vectorized it, and began to color it in and refining it!
